The Lich King cometh…so long to all we knew

WoW_WotLK_art03 As the release of the Lich King draws closer (a mere matter of hours), the realms are buzzing with speculation, schemes and all sorts of things. Guilds are busy trying to fit in the last few raids before they all head to Northrend. People are frantically trying to get achievements done before they pack up to power level to 80. Everyone’s throwing their old junk in the AH in an attempt to offload and free up bag/bank space for the trip north. It seems I have a trillion things that I need to get done between now and Wednesday night. How am I supposed to get exalted with all the major cities and help with the last Black Temple raid before the expansion?

In addition to the excitement that comes with the anticipation of the release of the latest addition to the World of Warcraft, there is also a small sense of loss. The sound of crickets will be deafening in the Outlands as everyone packs up their winter garb and heads off to conquer Northrend. Shattrath City, once the source of several headaches from lag due to the swarms of toons taking care of various tasks or hanging out waiting in queues for arenas or battlegrounds, will seem like a ghost town after the expansion. The once familiar routine of logging in just long enough before raid time to farm up some raid supplies and check my mail will become a thing of the past - at least until level 80. Those raids that we’ve all lived in for months will become just another instance to farm from time to time. All those epics you’ve spent so much time getting most likely will be put in the bank only to be pulled out in moments of nostalgia or to make room for new things. There’s just something a little heart breaking about deleting an epic. Maybe I’m just a sentimental fool like that.
